The Owners
Paul Mathews and Molly Grant of The Cordwainer Shop in Deerfield, New
Hampshire, are the owners of The Cordwainer Gallery of Fine Crafts,
located at the Village Shoppes of Bedford. The Gallery showcases the
work of over 450 national artists.
The collection includes jewelry, ceramic, leather handbags, glass, fiber
and wearable art, lighting, unique furniture and home accessories.
Custom-made shoes from The Cordwainer Shop are also featured. Profiled
by NH Crossroads and featured in Yankee Magazine, The Cordwainer Shop also
offers shoemaking workshops.
Paul and Molly travel the country to fine, juried crafts shows to show
their line of footwear. These shows are where they meet the artists
whose work is displayed in the Gallery.
The Cordwainer Shop (Cordwainer Shoes) Deerfield, New Hampshire
We are a small, family run business. Paul & Molly make the shoes and travel to the craft shows.
Paul's daughter Sara runs the business end as well as having a major part in the shoe-making process.
All the work is done by hand with the help of a 1900's Singer®
sewing machine and Paul's finishing equipment. With the three of us putting in several hours a day,
we can usually complete 2 pairs a day.
"Cordwainer" is a shoemaker - the term originated among boot makers in Spain.
